A clinical psychologist and Distinguished Research Professor at Alliant International University in San Diego and a professor at the University of Ottawa, Dr. Johnson is the primary developer of emotionally focused therapy (EFT). Serves its purpose!

I wad told that this book was more of a textbook for technical minds who work with motion capture systems first hand. Motion capture is a very strong subject at the company I work for. I had a general understanding of the technology, but I still felt that I was missing a certain level of understanding. I researched the subject on the Internet and couldn't find the results I was looking for, it seems that good information on motion capture is very limited. I picked up a copy of this book and I was very surprised. It is an easy read, I did not have to review the material several times to understand. The last 2 chapters were too technical for my understanding, but the knowledge I gained from the rest of the book is priceless. It's great to see the development of the industry, and all the diffrent technologies that exsist for motion capture. This industry will be exploding very soon so I suggest you pick this one up.

Nice Motion Capture Textbook

Firstly, I have to say, I liked the graphics in the textbook. The other reviewer didn't but I found them to be pretty helpful -- they're cartoon-like and look like they're from the 70s.

My only grief was the size of the book for the cost mentioned. The primer takes up a good chunk of that along with some data tables, etc. Nothing horrid just think when I'd pay this much for a book I'd expect it to be wider.

Over 100 full-page patterns, Ingenious & useful designs

This book presents an ingenious, useful and impressive design concept for the woodworker. It is a central spiral cut collapsible basket supported in a frame that can be cut in countless designs.
These baskets are made from a single piece of �" hardwood. There are instructions for the bandsaw or scroll saw. Over 100 full page patterns are provided and the size can be adjusted by enlarging or reducing the pattern.
Patterns include farm & wild animals, dinosaurs, teddy bears, people, vehicles, buildings and traditional baskets. Many more designs could be easily adapted to the basic basket technique.
The baskets can be used as candy or trinket dishes and are wonderful with decorative floral arrangements. They collapse for storage or use as a trivet and make great gifts.

Mohammad Shenasa, Attending Physician, Department of Cardiovascular Services, O'Connor Hospital, Heart & Rhythm Medical Group, San Jose, California, USA,A. John Camm, Professor of Clinical Cardiology, Department of Clinical Sciences, St. George's and University of London , London, UK

Professor John Camm qualified in 1971. He worked at Guy's Hospital before working at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, London. In 1986 he moved to St. George's Hospital Medical School in London as Professor of Clinical Cardiology (British Heart Foundation). Professor Camm was elected the Chairman of Medicine in October 1990, a post rotated from in 1995. He is now the Chairman of the Division of Cardiac and Vascular Sciences at St. George's University of London. His major speciality is cardiac arrhythmias but he is also much involved in clinical cardiac electrophysiology, cardiac pacemakers, risk stratification in post myocardial infarction, heart failure and cardiomyopathy patients. He has a major interest in cardiovascular safety of cardiac and non-cardiac drugs. John has given over 1500 lectures to national and international audiences, written more than 1000 peer review papers and over 250 detailed reviews. He has authored and edited numerous books.

Excellent Book for Men

I highly recommend this book for either individual use or for men's groups. The study questions at the end of chapters are great for facilitating discussion in men's groups. The cost is quite high (if purchased new) but worth it...try and find it used on Amazon.

Very worthwhile reading--insightful and provocative.

I genuinely enjoyed reading this book. The author demonstrates remarkable insight into the challenges facing a man and his struggles. The author's discussion of the various "masks" of men is obviously the result of the author's working through these issues in his own life. The books contains an insightful discussion which allowed me to gain additional insight into myself. I would encourage all men who are interested in understanding themselves better to read this book.

What happened to the proof reader?

There are some nice tunes in this volume but it is full of blatant mistakes. It has numerous wrong notes, chord changes, rhythms, incorrect melodies, some tunes have the wrong bridge, key signatures that don't match the actual key of the song and even writing the some of the selections in bass clef. You can forgive a couple of small mistakes, but this goes beyond that to the point of not being a reliable fake book.

Paul D. Allison is Professor of Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania, where he teaches graduate courses in statistics. He is the author of Logistic Regression Using the SAS System: Theory and Application, Survival Analysis Using SAS: A Practical Guide, and Fixed Effects Regression Methods for Longitudinal Data Using SAS. Paul has also written numerous statistical papers and published extensively on the subject of scientists' careers. He frequently teaches public short courses on the methods described in his books. Great got better

If you read the reviews of the first edition of this book (Survival Analysis Using SAS: A Practical Guide) you will see that everyone loved it. This edition is even better. The new edition is updated to cover a *LOT* of new functionality. There are new tests, new methods (especially noteworthy are the new Bayesian techniques), and a lot of new graphics. Things that used to be done with custom macros are now built into SAS and Allison covers them with the same clarity as people loved in the first edition.

To get a feel for the updates, the chapter on Kaplan-Meier methods is greatly expanded (don't worry if you don't know what that means he explains both the math and concepts beautifully). In the first edition he showed how to test for differences between three treatment groups but if there were differences in between the groups you could not test to see if group "a" differed from "b" or "b" from "c", etc., and adjust the p-values for multiple comparisons, this edition covers these critical tests (with adjustments for multiple comparison). There is also a lot of new material on graphics, like getting hazard function estimates with confidence intervals.

If you are a biomedical researcher, this book explains both the reasons why you will want to do a test and how to conduct it. Basically Allison makes SAS seem like the best choice for survival analysis.

One of the clearest and simplest books on Survival-Analysis

This is one of the clearest and simplest books on Survival analysis, and a pleasure to read. The subject matter is developed gradually and with with minimum pre-requisites beyond a working knowledge of and familiarity with linear regression.

A great primer, though if you are implementing some of the Survival Analysis techniques (as opposed to just using SAS), you will have to supplement this with a more extensive work.

About the Author
Dr. A. Nyland spent her time on Faculty at the University of New England, Australia, teaching ancient grammar and ancient history. She is the best selling translator of such books as The Complete Books of Enoch and author of What Were the Watchers? as well as Nephilim and Giants. The information based on her books is not based on her own opinions, but is presented with a view to getting actual facts out there. This is harder and harder in this day and age with misinformation spreading like wildfire on the net, driven by all the books by authors who know no ancient translations, and get their information from English translations rather than the original texts. It is futile to research ancient texts in English translation. Dr. A. Nyland is the Director of the charity Morrigan Horse Rescue and Rehab for hard-case rescue horses.

Modern Christmas celebrations, however, serve as a source of conflict-and can make us anxious, stressed, fat, poor and stupid. Christmas owns us; we do what it wants, when it wants. Fun read about Christmas myths

It is so refreshing to read a book about an issue that has become controversial that is written with clarity and respect. Johnson has carefully researched seven attributes of the Christmas holiday and presents well-documented explanations of how those attributes began, how they grew, how they are often used to be divisive, and how people of all beliefs can enjoy the holiday with respect for the beliefs of others. Each chapter is organized by presenting the myth, exploring its origins and current manifestation, and explaining how it may have served to detract from enjoyment of the season. I especially like that the book does not denigrate or criticize anyone's choice of how to celebrate (or even decline to celebrate) the season but does offer reasoned arguments to encourage respect for diversity and avoidance of strident denunciations of how some may choose secular or religious observances. I do not agree with all his conclusions, but they are well reasoned, oppose dogmatism, and presented with tolerance for other viewpoints.

This book was fantastic! I was generally familiar with a lot of these myths, but the detailed backstories were fascinating. I would highly recommend this book to any skeptic or atheist, or even a Christian who's interested to know how their religion hijacked an ancient holiday. It's also ammunition for atheists who want justification for celebrating Christmas (or Krismas).

Enjoyable and interesting

An enjoyable read with quite a few interesting facts, and a perhaps a little bit too much speculation. The history around Christmas and its relationship to pre-Christian traditions is fascinating as well as the fact most Christmas traditions are less 150 years-old. There are several interesting historical facts in the book that I was unaware of, and the gentle but lightly sarcastic tone Johnson employs makes it highly enjoyable. I do think he may over-conclude in the "Santa Claus" origins section, but he does admit that this was actually the hardest to do research on as many misconceptions are reported as fact. A good read.
