Great WWII Naval Yarn

Captain Smith commands a near obsolete cruiser whose crew and officers believe he should not be their commander. His superiors suspect his abilities too. Smith spent 20 years between the wars as an intelligence officer and keeps his secrets to himself. One secret is that his daughter has been captured by the German cruiser and her support ship that he is chasing. He also carries out his orders to participate in the too little too late operations in Norway. If you like the genre, you'll enjoy this read.

Same Satisfying Formula

They came in the same old way .... For me, a World War 2 history junkie, Evans is perfect light, entertaining reading. In each book, he takes you to an important second-level event in one of the world wars, Norway in WW2 in this one, and places Smith in a position to touch real events. It ain't Shakespeare, or an intricate Ludlum-esque plot, or beautiful Patrick O'Brian prose, wit and humor, and in every book there's a girl and a final confrontation with the bogey at an unlikely short range and a crew that starts out underestimating Smith and ends up idolizing him. However, the settings are cool and so is Smith, and that's been enough for me over and over again. Take Evans to the beach this summer -- you both deserve it.
