Great, Great Book!

I absolutely LOVE this book. Chris writes in a way that makes it feel like we are walking through the book together. It's very engaging and vulnerable. This coupled with great insight has inspired me to pursue some specific things I've been putting off in my life... And he offers great tools and tips on how to move forward. I'm not only motivated, but I'm making a change that is doable and exciting. I'm so thankful I found this book! I'd definitely recommend this to anyone!

It had me at "WELCOME."

This book had me at "Welcome!" One never gets too old to dream, but often we forget how to travel from the beginning to the next step. This simply written step by step journey begins with opening this book and begin dreaming. It may be your first dream or your 150th dream. No matter, one step at a time you can achieve your goals. I have a list of people I want to share STEP with. Highly recommend. Easy read. Simple and authentic advice.

The perfect book to help you turn your big dreams into reality!

Step is a great mixture of both inspiration and practicality. Most of us don't lack information but we do lack tools that help us turn our dreams, desires, and good intentions into reality. Step is an easy read that will both motivate you and help you turn your big dreams and goals into achievable action steps. If you're a dreamer like me then this is a must read. I highly recommend it!

About the Author

Dr. Roger Pierangelo is a Professor in the Department of Special Education and Literacy at Long Island University. He has been an administrator of special education programs, served for 18 years as a permanent member of Committees on Special Education, has over 30 years of experience in the public school system as a general education classroom teacher and school psychologist, and serves as a consultant to numerous private and public schools, as well as PTA and Special Education PTA groups. Dr. Pierangelo has also been an evaluator for the New York State Office of Vocational and Rehabilitative Services and a director of a private clinic. He is a New York State–licensed clinical psychologist, a certified school psychologist, and a board-certified diplomate fellow in student and adolescent psychology and forensic psychology. Dr. Pierangelo is the executive director of the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET) and an executive director of the American Academy of Special Education Professionals (AASEP). He is also vice president of the National Association of Parents with Children in Special Education (NAPCSE). Dr. Pierangelo earned his BS from St. John’s University, MS from Queens College, professional diploma from Queens College, PhD from Yeshiva University, and diplomate fellow in student and adolescent psychology and forensic psychology from the International College of Professional Psychology. Dr. Pierangelo is a member of the American Psychological Association, New York State Psychological Association, Nassau County Psychological Association, New York State Union of Teachers, and Phi Delta Kappa. Dr. Pierangelo is the author of multiple books in the field of special education, including two coauthored with Dr. Giuliani from Pearson Education titled Transition Services in Special Education: A Practical Approach and Learning Disabilities: A Practical Approach to Foundations, Assessment, Diagnosis, and Teaching.

Dr. George Giuliani is a full-time Associate Professor at Hofstra University’s School of Education and Special Education programs. He is also an adjunct professor at Hofstra University’s School of Law where he teaches special education law. Dr. Giuliani earned his BA from the College of the Holy Cross, MS from St. John’s University, JD from City University of New York School of Law, and MA and PsyD from Rutgers University. He earned board certification as a diplomate fellow in advanced child and adolescent psychology, board certification as a diplomate fellow in forensic sciences from the International College of Professional Psychology, and board certification in special education from the American Academy of Special Education Professionals. Dr. Giuliani is a member of the American Psychological Association, Education Law Association, New York State Psychological Association, American Bar Association, Suffolk County Psychological Association, Psi Chi, American Association of University Professors, and the Council for Exceptional Children. Dr. Giuliani is the executive director of The National Association of Special Education Teachers, executive director of the American Academy of Special Education Professionals, and president of the National Association of Parents with Children in Special Education. He has been a consultant for school districts and early childhood agencies, and has provided numerous workshops for parents, teachers, and other professionals on a variety of special education and psychological topics. Only 50% Refund!!!

I misread that this was an e-text and the book wasn't included. I returned for a refund (which the product was BRAND new) and they returned only half of my money. The other half went towards a "processing fee" of $38.20. Needless to say, I am not a happy customer.

It is not surprising then that even fewer books have explored the contours of these social phenomena from an explicitly geographical perspective – in other words, in terms of ‘space’, ‘place’ and ‘scale’.

Migration is an advanced, yet accessible, introduction to migration and immigration in a global context. It offers a critical, multi-disciplinary approach to the subject, borrowing from human geography, political science, social anthropology and sociology. However, unlike other broad volumes on the subject, it emphasizes a theoretical and conceptual approach to the study of migration. Specifically, Migration adopts a unique geographical approach by employing spatial concepts such as place, scale and territory. Using these spatial concepts, the author argues that most studies of migration begin with either an undue emphasis on nation-states as a lens on migration or on the contrary rely on exaggerated notions of transnationalism. Migration neither neglects the importance of nation states nor the significance of transnationalism, but it focuses on how local contexts matter to migration. The book covers such topics as migration categories, the explanation of different forms of migration, migration and employment, the geopolitics of migration and immigration and citizenship, rights, and belonging.

This text is not simply an encyclopaedic overview of migration theories, trends and facts; rather, it is designed to have lasting intellectual value by providing particular arguments in each theme-based chapter. While it advocates certain arguments, it is also clearly written in an engaging and accessible manner for an undergraduate audience. Its clear structure is complemented by a combination of pedagogical features, such as case-study boxes, summary questions at the end of each chapter and a glossary. The book is designed for courses and modules on migration and immigration at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and both students and academics will find it exceptionally useful.

Enchanting

I am a kindergarten teacher and I have read this book (at the request of my students) four times in the last week. It is a wonderful, wonderful book. The art work is superb - it needs a Caldecott medal on its cover. In spite of the fact that I am retiring in less than three months, I am ordering two copies of Sea of Dreams; one is for myself and the other is for my 49 year old daughter. This book has also been a great springboard for class discussions. "Did the seagull help them?" "Who lit the light in the second castle?" "The little girl built the second castle taller. Why didn't she move it farther back from the water's edge?" What a beguiling book.

Beautifully Drawn

We absolutely love this book. It contains no words, but tells a story eloquently through beautiful illustrations. It ends on a note that leaves children with a mischievous idea of what happens next, and thoroughly captures their attention along the way. It's a great book for children too young to read and one that can also capture the imagination of a fourth grader, prompting them to come up with their own imaginative journeys, stories, or other ideas with a surprise ending.

A magical experience

My first grader has an active imagination and is always writing stories and making up creative play stories with her dolls/ fairies/ toys. When I suggested we pick some picture books at the library, she was initially reluctant because she is currently keen on reading chapter books such as the The Doll People Collection: The Doll People, The Meanest Doll in the World. She changed her mind when she saw the attractive cover on Sea of Dreams.

The book has no written story or text within. Instead, there are a series of illustrations on each page that enable the reader to make up one's own story which is what we did. My daughter and I took turns making up a story for each picture, with the rule that our story needed to flow so that it would make sense. Little did we realize the treat and surprise we were both in for! The illustration starts off innocently enough with a young girl playing on the beach and building a sandcastle. But as we turned the pages, that sandcastle revealed a magical surprise that took us both into a realm of fantasy and magical adventure, and let our imaginations conjure an equally fantastical storyline! This is a book to be treasured, along the lines of Chris Van Allsburg's The Mysteries of Harris Burdick (Portfolio Edition).
