As home schooled students, my sons are being taught Math by the Common Core version of EnVision Math. This Math book provides a variety of examples which are clearly explained and a variety of problems for each content area. Each section provides a Reteaching section, Test section, and Performance section which adequately prepares students for upcoming assessments. As a highly qualified teacher, I find that my sons are understanding Math better through this program at a much faster pace and are proving their mathematical understandings through constructed response and multiple-choice test problems, which are provided through assessments in EnVision Math's Assessment Book. I highly recommend purchasing the Assessment Book along with the student edition of EnVision Math. There is a homeschool packet of EnVision Math, but it is not based on Common Core which will likely not prove as satisfactory as the Common Core edition.

It is great to have it around the house

I ordered this book because it is the one that my daughter uses at school. She has to bring home so many books that her backpacks keep tearing up and so this book was so reasonably priced that purchased it to lighten the load for her. We have this book at home to help her with any of the problems she has trouble figuring out. It is great to have it around the house. I would recommend anyone who has a child going into the fourth grade and has some trouble with the common core math to purchase it. It will really help out in the end.

Being There

I was lucky enough to be part of Ghana 1, the major topic of Bob Klein's book. Klein has successfully captured many of the challenges, adventures, and successes of our two year experience in Ghana. MANY of our group went on with other Peace Corps jobs: as volunteers, Directors, Administrators. The bonding that we have experienced then makes us rejoice at our scheduled 50th anniversary. Bob deserves our thanks for this book.

The Times They Are A Changing

I knew Bob. Following his Peace Corps tour, Bob became the Director of the entire Ghana Peace Corps program.

I found his reporting of his experiences with the villagers to be somewhat bureaucratic, arms length, maybe impersonal or aloof ??

Why do I say this? Because I became a Peace Corps volunteer in 1966. I say this when I compare my own two years experience with Bob's. I did live among a different tribe than did Bob.
I found the Ghanaian villagers engaging. Resourceful. And surprisingly happy, despite their outward economic circumstance.
I made many good friends. And, I found it difficult to say good bye, when my tour ended in 1968.

Ironically, as director of the Ghana Peace Corps, Bob was outstanding. He respected each volunteer as a creative individual. In his administrative role, Bob happily offered so much support and encouragement and creative suggestions to the Volunteers.
Bob was a natural fit for the times and his role.

You may find that Bob's historical details provide a fascinating and rare look into the early days when U.S. Peace Corps policy still involved a lot of experimenting. The U.S. Peace Corps "mission" advanced slowly through its early birthing years.

It was a wonderful time. No cell phones. No internet. No computers. Snail mail between Ghana and the United States required 4 to 6 weeks -- one way.

The majority of Ghanaians lived in small villages. Local Messages were sent between the villages by the "talking drum." And no Ghanaian had ever seen a McDonald's, a Pizza Hut, or a Kentucky Fried. As volunteers, we ate the native foods. We lived and played in the same manner as the villagers.

In short, it truly was another world -- in another time and place.
How quickly those changes have come.

This is a great book. I love the kinesiology in it. It was a good review from my original kinesiology books from class. It helps that there are exercises and progressions in the book as well. The other thing I like are the descriptions of how to perform the various physical assessments in the book, especially the squat assessment. They are extremely useful.

The book’s scope is necessarily limited by the certification parameters, but this is an essential text for anyone wanting to understand aberrations in neuro-musculo-skeletal system, doctors, therapists, trainers, or coaches.
