About the Author
Nikoo and Jim McGoldrick are storytellers, teachers, and partners in the truest sense. Nikoo was born in Tehran, Iran, and moved to United States on the eve of Iranian revolution. After receiving a degree in Mechanical engineering, for fifteen years she worked in shipbuilding and robotics, holding manufacturing and higher level management positions. Always a writer and teacher at heart, she gave up her engineering career to pursue writing full time over a decade ago. These days, she also conducts frequent workshops on writing and publishing and serves as a visiting author at middle and high schools. When their first son was born, Jim gave up a successful career in shipbuilding to pursue a PhD in Medieval and Renaissance literature. After being awarded tenure at a university in Pennsylvania, he found that the opportunity to write novels full-time could not be ignored. Since then, he and Nikoo have written well over two dozen works of fiction and nonfiction. Along with his writing, he currently teaches English and Creative Writing in northwestern Connecticut. Together, Nikoo and Jim write historical fiction as May McGoldrick and contemporary suspense thrillers as Jan Coffey. These prolific and popular authors have been the recipients of numerous awards for their work. They now reside in Litchfield County, Connecticut.

Suspense, twists, and love!

I just finished reading Road Kill this morning at 6:10am --- I have one complaint -- I could not put it down and once the book ended I wanted more, more! then I read that it is the first book in the series. What more can I ask for?

I fell in love with the 2 main characters. Gavin and Lacey are smart, wickedly sexy, loving, and caring characters. I was so drawn to them that I cried when we find out about their personal stories as it was so heart warming though sad. The story had enough twists that I did not guess who "dun it" - not to mention such a surprised ending - and that is what I call a suspense. I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Fast-paced, lots of suspense, great characters

Really enjoyed getting to know Gavin and Lacey. Early in the book I found myself questioning the details; e.g., why go after Lacey when she wasn't the killer? But by the end the pieces made sense and came together very satisfactorily. I've been a Jan Coffey fan for years and was delighted to see that this the first of a new series. Looking forward to the next!

Lacey’s sister is found dead. Having spent time behind bars she embarks on finding her sister’s killer. The sudden appearance of pictures on her computer that are linked to Terri’s death is a mystery that unravels slowly. It’s a gripping story that will keep you guessing. The plot takes a different twist when Gavin falls for Lacey. Meanwhile lingering in his mind was the mysterious death of Stephanie Green. Lacey has little or no choice but to trust her instinct. The story gets even more interesting when evidence of what Terri was working on before she died begun to resurface.

Clearly the author’s suspenseful writing is adept at letting her readers really get to know her characters. The story doesn't write one-dimensional characters that are easy to predict. You get into the characters' lives, motivations, thoughts and actions but at the same time the momentum of the story is well paced. I was quite riveted throughout the entire book. There were plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing who did it?

‘Donna and Ron Marteka locked up in his office with the blinds down at least half an hour. What do you think they’re doing? Not forgetting Ron is married.

Not read any books written by this author but I must say I’m keen to do so now. Loved it! – Definitely a must read!

a little misleading

This book is obviously professionally written. The only contention I had with the book was that it was misleading in the description that it explains how to preform hypnosis. It does not do that. This book is written for the professional Hypnotherapist and not a novice person who wants to gain an understanding on how hypnosis works and is performed.
The book essentially explains what things you can do to better your skills once you attain the basics of hypnosis/hypnotherapy. It goes on about how you can use such and such method to each a desired outcome but assumes you know how to perform that method. So it is definately not a beginners book.
With that said, the reviews are correct in saying that it is written in a style for everyone to understand. It is very readable and well written.

Some quite useful information but....

Mostly a rehash of free articles available on the author's website and a promotion tool to sign up for his 5 Path training. There is pratical and useful descriptions of organizing your practice and making good initial impressions.

The author describes the first 2 of his 5 "paths" including age regreassion in great detail and then invites the reader to sign up for training to learn about the final 3 paths. I respect Mr. Banyan as a hynotherapist and businessman, but writing is clearly not his best talent. This book is poorly written and there are several typos, which is unprofessional looking. The author has also employed a hypnotic writing technique at the start of each chapter that states everything "you will learn" in the following chapter. It is annoying and time consuming. I don't want to be told what I will learn, just give me the information.

While the book has some merit, most of the information can be gathered by reading the free articles on his website.

Totally loved this book! I couldn't put it down until I finished it. A beautifully written resource full of useful information for anyone who has ever lived with and/or survived the chaos of addiction in their family. This book provides an amazing opportunity to learn how to move forward, forgive and be more cognizant of our personal power to change our family dynamic. All this done through the real life story of the author with intimate details of the pain, shame, and loss in her own personal family. A book not just for those choosing to break cycles of addiction behaviors in their family but anyone looking for the inspiration and courage to make a difference in the lives of the people they love! It was ok

I liked the premise of the book but reading it I felt it didn't live up to its potential. Firstly Sam & Carla never actually did the deed over 10years ago but they hold each other as the ideal sexual partner? What the? How can all your previous partners pale in comparison to someone you've not actually been with?
Also I found Carla a bit petty & unwilling to let go of a grudge. If Sam was a grown man & behaved the way he did then ok but he was a teenager give him a break!
I just couldn't warm up to Carla so I gave this 3 stars

Painful protagonist and Hard to empathize

I just finished reading it in one setting. However, I found it hard to finish, and had to force myself to do it so I could write a complete review.

I found Carla, the female protagonist, hard to tolerate; she was too self-righteous and played "the victim" card ad nauseam, until the very end. I found her to be childish, emotionally selfish and extremely annoying that even all the sex scenes did not do much to lift up the story. And there were a lot of those. Carla and Sam were at different levels mentally of what their feelings were for each other that those sex scenes felt forced and lacking true Intimacy.

In addition, Carla has been holding a grudge for 11 years because Sam left her and broke her heart. Therefore, what does she do with the man who humiliated her, and made her feel worthless? Does she honestly confront him about it? NO. Is she honest with herself or demands an apology? NO. As soon as the opportunity presents itself she is having sex with the same man who trampled on her feelings and heart, "Just to scratch an itch" as she puts it; "It is only sex," according to her (foolish thoughts). It only exemplified Carla's immaturity.

I personally did not feel any empathy for her or her predicament.

Sam, the male lead felt more human and patient; almost too patient. I actually felt bad for him at many times. He was the only adult one in this relationship.

Overall, it was a painful read and the storyline just dragged on, in my opinion.

Okay..So It Is A Bit Trashy, But...

That is what one should expect if they read the book summary. My personal opinion was that this book delivered and I enjoyed every single page. Jami Alden added the perfect notes of chemistry and heat to keep me wanting more and I plan to read more from her. It took me a minute to get used to the graphic language used during the sex scenes, simply because I don't usually read erotic lit. I think I might read a little more now...
